Grand Cayman Activities: Things To Do and See

Grand Cayman activities are found in the air, on land, at sea and underwater. They’re active for those that want excitement and relaxed for those who want to unwind.

Things everyone must do and see during your stay on the island are snorkeling, the semi-submersible , the submarine, the Turtle Farm, and Stingray City or Sandbar. Helicopter rides come into this group too.

If you’re the more adventurous type add scuba diving and parasailing to the list.

‘Try the sky’, so the advert says, with Parasailing Professionals who can introduce you gently to this experience or let you go right ahead if you’re already a seasoned parasailer. They have single, double, and triple parasails. They will also give you a discount if you book direct so give them a call at 345-916-2953

Grand Cayman Botanic Gardens Another, more leisurely, place to visit is the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park. This tranquil spot in the center of the island is only 30 minutes drive from George Town and the airport.

Entrance is US$10 and you can stay all day. That’s a good thing because you need to take your time here, there’s a lot to see and the sun is hot.

Of all the Grand Cayman activities we tried, we liked this spot so much we overdid it, you, however, get the benefit of our over-indulgence in words and photos on our Botanic Gardens page.

If you have kids with you, there’s the Black Pearl Skate and Wave Park at Grand Harbour, minutes away from George Town. The Skate Park is the largest of its kind, 62,000 square feet of adolescent fun, while the Wave part of the Park has the world’s largest free-standing wave. The wave making machine can also tailor-make waves for individuals so you don’t have to be a Surf Star to enjoy your experience. You don’t have to bring your own equipment either; they rent out everything you’ll need. Call ahead at (345) 947-4161 or go to www.blackpearl.ky for more information.

Speaking of the ‘Black Pearl’, Grand Cayman has it’s own pirate ship, the Jolly Roger. Sailing out of George Town harbor, the pirate ship does daylight and sunset cruises, as well as weddings and other charter events. You can get more details by visiting their website Jolly Roger Cruises.

If all this hyperactivity isn’t for you or your kid, the Park also has a virtual reality gaming area so they can get their computer game fix even when they’re away from home.

Grand Cayman activities that will appeal to kids and parents alike are the different horse riding experiences, particularly the ones, such as Pampered Ponies (345-945-2262), where you get to ride the horses as they swim in the sea. Renting a horse costs US$60 for one and a half hours of riding along the beach near Barkers Park. For more information: www.ponies.ky or dan@ponies.ky

If you’re an experienced rider, Nickis Beach Rides offer fast rides along the beach. They only accept children twelve or over and a maximum of 4 riders. Their ride is US$100 per rider, discounts are available so call them at 345-945-5839 or visit their website: www.caymanhorseriding.com

Another slightly different horse riding experience can be found a Honey Suckle Trail Rides. They do rides to suit their customers, such as guided trail rides, sunset rides, midnight rides and picnics. their phone is 345-916-5420

Grand Cayman activities to keep in mind if you’re a parent of small children are the supervised camps for kids, particularly useful for those days when you want to do something the kids can’t manage.

For information, call ahead at these numbers:

345-946-5800, Smyles Playtime Paradise (for young children)
345-945-3800, Camp Scallywag (ages 4-12)
345-943-9000, Ambassadors of the Environment (ages 4-18 and devised by Jacques Cousteau, no less!)
345-949-8485, Fitness Connection (ages 5-12 and includes trips to Stingray City, Botanic Gardens, etc)

Kayak tours are perhaps the newest of Grand Cayman activities but already there are a couple of companies offering this eco-friendly way of sight-seeing.

Cayman Kayaks, based on Northside (345-926-4467), and Atlantis Adventures, based in George Town (345-949-7700) offer kayak tours by day and night (where bioluminescent sea creatures light up the water you’re paddling in.) You can also contact Cayman Kayaks through their website at: www.caymankayaks.com

Tandem Wilderness Systems Kayaks offer, as the name suggests, tandem kayaks you sit on top of and they’re claimed to be very comfortable. You’ll find them at Cayman Kai, which is near Rum Point.

Ecoventures Ltd does kayak tours and rentals, along with a host of other sport-related activities such as mountain biking, deep sea fishing, carving and Mastic Trail tours. Yo can reach them at: www.ecoventures.ky

The best thing about the kayak tours is that they reach places other transport can’t, particularly on the Northside where there are areas unserviced by road.

Grand Cayman butterfly, animal pictures, pictures of animals, nature pictures, Cayman Islands Another new attraction is the Butterfly Farm. This particular picture is of a native Cayman butterfly, there are more Cayman bird and animal pictures on our Photos page. and on our Wildlife page. For me, taking photos was one of the best Grand Cayman activities because pretty well every picture came out brilliantly and there was plenty to take.

If you enjoy taking photos as much as I do, and you’ve wondered how to share them with others, you might want to think about your own website. Our About Us page explains how we did it and how you might too.

As all travelers know, activities cost money so knowing where the nearest bank is can be a ‘life’ saver.

For next year’s activities, visit our calendar page.

I’ll be adding more Grand Cayman activities, such as water sports and catamaran sailing, over the coming weeks so keep checking back for more.
