Grand Cayman Flowers Photos

Cayman flowers are one of the most important parts of the island experience.

Even if you’re not a gardener, you’ll appreciate your condo, hotel or resort more if it’s colorful and naturally scented.

As with our beaches page, this page is made up of images to give you a sense of being there.

Grand Cayman seems to be constantly in bloom and here we capture just a fraction of the flowers and blossoms that greet you wherever you go on the island.

Cayman Flowers – The Botanical Gardens

One bloom you will likely only see after the spring rains, is the Cayman Islands national flower, the Wild Banana Orchid. This orchid is native to the Cayman Islands and, more specifically, there are two varieties, one from Grand Cayman and one from the Sister Islands, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac.

Many of the photos were taken at different places around the island but some, like the one above, are from the botanic gardens.

I’ve left it here because our botanical gardens photo page already has a lot of photos and would be too much if I added more.

Like many hot places, many of the most spectacular flowers are on trees and shrubs. The bushes below, for example, are in the parking lot of the Botanic Park and give visitors an appetizer for things to come.

Roadsides and the wilder bush areas out in the East End also have great splashes of tropical color, sometimes the color comes from flowers, sometimes it’s the leaves and stems steal the show. I’m pretty sure the color in the photo above is a Begonia flower, though it was spiky to the touch.

All the resorts and hotels have gardens, of course, and many of the public buildings do too, so you’ll see lots of blooms while you’re on the island. And a hike along the Mastic Trail or through the QE II botanic gardens are also good places to see flowers.

Caymanians have absorbed the English love of flower gardens down the centuries and their gardens put on quite a show too. For more Cayman Flowers, visit our page Tropical Island Flowers.

And, of course, where you have flowers, you’ll find butterflies. Grand Cayman makes it easy to see them because flowers are everywhere. To see some of Grand Cayman’s butterflies, visit our page here.

The flowers above seemed to be a kind of Morning Glory. The yellow blossoms below are found on shrubs in many gardens.
