Caymana Bay:
Shopping Heaven

Caymana Bay is the newest way to shop on Grand Cayman. This grand Mall features stores, restaurants, bars, and all the other amenities you’d expect, in a magnificent setting on the water (you can dock your boat and shop) and among the palms.

Caymana Bay is just north of George Town, off West Bay Road, and behind Seven Mile Beach.

It’s  really handy for the resorts on Seven Mile Beach but has water access from North Sound, if you have a boat.

If you’re visiting from a cruise ship there’ll be a tour bus to take you here, I’m sure. Check with your Cruise Director on-board.

Grand Cayman's Caymana Bay Mall

Like so many places in the Western world nowadays, once a giant Mall or box store moves in everything gravitates toward it and the downtown area of towns and cities become much quieter. George Town is no exception.

Apart from the Duty Free stores around the cruise ship terminal, most of the shopping has moved to the Mall so it should be your first stop for everything except duty free goods like alcohol, jewelry and perfume.

I hope you can see the waterfront cafes behind the dock. Be sure to click one of the photos to see the gallery and larger sizes.

Caymana Bay — Getting There and Being There

Grand Cayman's Caymana Bay docking for boats

If you’re staying on the island, there’s plenty of transport to the Mall and if you’ve rented a car there’s plenty of parking. If you arrive by boat, there’s acres of docking and if you’re arriving on a cruise ship there will be excursions that include this Mall.

Once you’re there, it’s all pedestrian and a great way to spend time is to walk along the waterfront to view the boats and visit the cafes along the way.

There’s even a Blue Dragon statue on the small island in the dock for those doing the Blue Dragon Trail.

Grand Cayman's Caymana Bay Observation Tower

The Mall has an Observation Tower for those who want to get their bearings.

It isn’t too tall (only about 75 ft if you want to know because in case you’re afraid of heights:-) but then Grand Cayman isn’t a big or hilly island so it doesn’t need to be.

From the top, there are unrivaled views over the Sound to Stingray City and Rum Point, as well as back to Seven Mile Beach, George Town and the airport

Window Shopping

Grand Cayman's Caymana Bay shaded seating for hot days

The Mall streets are broad so many have canopies or various kinds of shade for visitors and there are a good number of places to sit and enjoy an ice cream or iced drink when it’s hot.

As it’s all pedestrianized, some streets are cobbled to look traditional, as in the photo below, which means you do need to be careful in heels.

That said, being without traffic and away from the downtown areas gives strolling around the Mall a wonderfully casual feel. Very chic. And the shops reflect that with their upmarket goods and services.

Whether you’re visiting the island from a cruise ship and want some retail therapy or staying at a resort, Caymana Bay is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening.

And don’t forget there are movie theaters as well (see the sign in the photo?). Visit Caymana Bay’s own site here for the latest updates of what’s on and what’s happening at the Mall.
