The Grand Cayman Calendar

The annual Grand Cayman calendar features a host of events that happen throughout the year and they’re all designed with visitors in mind.

If you like dressing up, Pirates Week is the one for you. For more Carnival-style entertainment then visit during Batabano when music, feasting and drinking (responsibly, of course) are the order of the day… and night.

Batabano

Grand Cayman Batabano Parade

Cayman’s national festival is Batabano and it’s celebrated in May.

This Mardi Gras style event is a two day affair (one week apart) — one day for the kids and one for the adults. This being the Cayman Islands, however, things don’t get out of hand, even at the adults festival.

Like Pirates Week, the principal focus is on dressing up or maybe that should be dressing lightly. This is your Brazilian-type event with lots of costumes to please the eye. Music too is an important part of these events, with a lot of live carnival, soca and calypso bands.

Of course there’s also lots of Caribbean and Cayman food from concession stands around George Town.

Kids Sea Camp

Kids Sea Camp is an event for families that want to dive together. It’s good for kids aged 5 and up, plus their parents as well.

There are two weeks of camps in July. Select the week and package (Turtle for 5-7 years old, Seal for 8-10, Junior Open Water for 10 – 15, Junior Advanced Open Water 12-16 old and others for those who are already certified divers) that’s right for your family.

TEK Week

Also big on the Cayman calendar is TEK Week at the end of August and into September. It’s also all about diving — this is one of the diving ‘capitals’ of the world, after all.

TEK welcomes beginners as well as seasoned divers, with visits to the ex-USS Kittiwake (a warship sunk for the pleasure of divers) and regular famous dive sites.

Pirates Week

Pirates Week is Cayman’s other national festival and is held each November in George Town and throughout the islands with street parties, fireworks, and parades — bring your pirate suit!

The festival commemorates the heritage of the Cayman Islands and reminds us of the uncertain relationship many islands had with pirates all those years ago when this part of the world was the ‘Spanish Main’. Many Caribbean islands had similar pirate experiences, Cayman has made it a festival

The festival is a lot of fun for would-be pirates of all ages, with lots of dressing-up and roistering in taverns (for the adults). Having the Pirates of the Caribbean movies showing on screens around the world gives this festival a nice boost.
