Grand Cayman News:
Papers and the Net

Grand Cayman news is provided by two papers, Caymanian Compass and Cayman NetNews, serving islanders and visitors alike, keeping readers in touch with the world and the island community.

News isn’t generally a high priority for vacationers but you never know when you need to know what’s happening in the outside world while you’re poolside or catching some rays on the beach.

And today, when most of us travel with a laptop, tablet or smartphone, keeping up-to-date is easier than ever. The links on this page, and on our Grand Cayman web cams page (for Caymanian Compass) will let you browse with ease.

Grand Cayman News — Cayman Compass

Caymanian Compass, located in the Compass Centre in George Town, is the older of the two at 42 years ‘of daily publishing’. It’s also the more conservative in layout and tone, more serious articles, fewer and smaller pictures.

Oddly, unlike most of the news world where size and serious go together, it’s a tabloid sized paper, which makes it handy for reading at the beach or poolside.

Caymanian Compass can also be viewed on the web (a link to their site is found on our webcams page) to keep you in touch with all that’s going on in the Cayman Islands and it provides two great webcams so you can peek in on George Town and see that everything is sunny — as usual.

Cayman Netnews

Cayman Netnews is also on the web at: www.caymannetnews.com.

It’s a bold, brash broadsheet that features more contests and more ‘human’ stories — it would be a tabloid in other parts of the world. Being Caymanian, however, despite its louder tone (louder than the Compass, anyhow), it’s still very readable and decent, unlike too many similar newspapers around the Western world.

Cayman News Service and Cayman 27

Another way to get your fix of Cayman news is to visit the Cayman News Service. This internet-based service also has a bright and breezy style with plenty of colorful photos.

And I can’t leave Cayman news without mentioning Cayman 27, the website of TV station CITN 27.

Your hotel room radio will also have Cayman radio stations, as well as some American and other Caribbean ones, which will provide news updates to keep you in touch with the world and what’s on in Grand Cayman.
